Daily I receive messages from people guaranteeing me that I will make a zillion dollars if I pay them a small fee for search engine optimization.  As a result I tend to ignore most of the mail I receive but this morning as I scrolled through my inbox, “Message in a Bottle Invitation, Favors, Gifts” caught my eye.  The title immediately set off the music in my head and the song “Message in a Bottle” by the Police started playing on repeat from deep in my memories.  Then I remembered a winter 22 years ago when I spent a week in France.  During that trip I met a very lovely girl named Aude and we spent several days inocently trying to communicate. We celebrated the New year and spent a few more days together before I had to set sail and return to my not so exciting life at the bottom of the Ocean.

When I returned home after about a month, I went to visit my parents and found a letter from her.  It was short and sweet and realistic.  I took the letter rolled it up and stuck it inside a mini bottle that I had gotten while in Germany and put it into my keepsake box.  Over the years I have stumbled upon the bottle and the letter still rolled up inside.  I don’t know if I have reread the letter again since that night I first received it, but when I see the bottle it  fills me with memories and emotions. I am glad I still have it.  It is one of my favorite Keepsakes.
